Chehalis, What a Blast! Wow, I’ve been racing with AHRMA for 11 years now and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced racing with so many women all on the same gate… Aside from the Women Pioneers of Motocross event at Diamond Don’s, this years Chehalis Vintage National topped it for me. We had our own gate as 18 of us line up with a rubber band start on the luscious grass field of “The Farm”. What a blast…. Long time friend and racing companion, Bonnie Warch, showed up to strut her stuff on a Jim Nation’s Creation 1974 YZ 250. Bonnie, who still competes against young female WMA Pro racers, was finally convinced to come on out and try vintage motocross with us. Taking 2nd overall in the Women’s Expert class, Bonnie also raced against the men in the Open Age Intermediate class and faired well. Peggy Cozart, our 3rd women’s expert, came all the way out from Georgia with another woman enthusiast, Patty Bell who competed in the Women’s Intermediate class against 9 ladies who where all on fire. Tammy Sessions, who’s competed in women’s motocross and off-road events for years, took home the #1 trophy in the intermediate division. For me, this was the first time I raced with Peggy Cozart, and although we’ve crossed paths at several venues and have both earned the #1 plate, I was honored to be able to finally get to race together and I hope for opportunities for all of us to do it again comes real soon. At this point, I would like to send a special “Thanks” out to all the ladies and their crews who showed up to support the Chehalis National. Women’s motocross is growing in modern times and it’s nice to know that some of us still have what it takes to throw our legs over the machines that paved the way for the youngsters today. Thank you Kaisha Keech, Arloa Cole, Kelsey Murphy, Pam Bast, Terry Herndon, Jennifer Holzbach, Kim Milewski, Patty Bell, Karen Loer, Emily Poole, Nancy Richards, Lori Morris, Debbie Poole, Tammy Sessions, Peggy Cozart and Bonnie Warch for joining me at Chehalis and for making my weekend.
