Record Breaking Numbers in So-Cal
“205”
Round 4 of the AHRMA Southwest Series got underway at the oldest
motocross park in California, Perris Raceway for the series first
night race. Once again the track staff were on hand ready and
willing to prepare a well-rounded, vintage friendly track for us.
As with the national held in April, Bill Silverthorne took the lead
making sure the track held up to it’s reputation within the vintage
community. Frank Vretta’s CalVMX crew did a spectacular job with
the administration piece of the program. CalVMX also promotes
additional vintage events and practice sessions in So-Cal, creating
a full schedule for the vintage community in addition to the series
they co-promote with AHRMA.
Record
breaking numbers showed up to support the south. With nine VMX &
PVMX fun filled motos, 205 entries were recorded in the record books
for both organizations. The contributing factors for the increase
was the previous AHRMA nation held two months earlier, both
organizations membership bases and word of mouth. “I’m so excited
to be apart of track layout at Perris” said Bill Silverthorne. “We
don’t always have this kind of support from track owners. Rick
Johnson, Jeff Nordstrom and their staff are doing a wonderful job”
he concluded.
“This is relatively new for Tami and I. This year, we are laying
the infrastructure for next year and years to come” says CalVMX’s
president, Frank Vretta. “The ground work for establishing a
well-rounded program that works for both organizations is very
important for our success” he adds.
Round
5 of the Southwest series will head back to Perris for its’ second
night race on August 30th. Then, both groups are looking
forward to the next AHRMA National in Southern California on
September 20th & 21th at the well known Glen Helen
Raceway in San Bernardino, CA just 3 weeks later. Plans are
underway for the event as track manager, Lori Bryant, along with
motorcycle enthusiast and racer, Tom White, are working with me to
ensure a successful event. Reports from the entire southwest region
are filtering in with support for the venue. Other regions to
include the Northwest have also committed to supporting the Glen
Helen National.
To conclude, AHRMA’s Southwest Team would like to thank Frank Vretta,
Bill Silverthorne and the entire CalVMX crew for doing such a
wonderful job working with us. We really appreciate the time spent
in making it work for both organizations. We are looking forward to
the continuance of developing a strong vintage presence in southern
California and the southwest region. Working with Frank and his
staff has been a pleasure for all of us.
Sincerely,
Tami Rice
